The Future Weird (2013-2015)

In 2013, I founded The Future Weird with Megan Eardley, a screening and discussion series dedicated to speculative, sci-fi, experimental and weird film by Black filmmakers. We foregrounded films that imagine the future, lay waste to the present, and that disturb science fiction clichés. Each screening was organised thematically, and drew on a range of materials — including but not limited to commercials, music videos, newsreels and colonial archives — to frame the shorts and features. We invited physical and digital communities into a cinematic laboratory to think collectively about queer space and the black fantastic.
