The Future Weird
In 2013, I co-founded a screening and discussion series dedicated to speculative, sci-fi and world-unravelling film by Black, African and ‘Global South’ filmmakers. Each episode was organised thematically, and drew on a range of materials — including adverts, music videos, news clips and colonial archives — to frame shorts and features that laid waste to the present, imagined the future and disturbed the clichés of mainstream science fiction.
